Question:
My parents own a small business and they don't really mind paying for their insurance since we're close with the employees. However, why should employers be forced to pay for their employee's insurance?
Answer:
1) By insuring a small group of people at one time, employers can get a better rate than employees can get on their own.
2) By offering a benefits package, including insurance, employers can attract a higher quality of employee and inspire greater loyalty among employees, resulting in lower absenteeism and turnover and higher production.
Those who employ over 50 people contribute, they don’t pay for their employees’ insurance. This is no hardship. If they like, they can lower wages to make up the difference. It’s the way it’s done in most of the civilized world so that we the taxpayers don’t have to pay for all their visits to the emergency room. |
